Registering Your Club

Why? Student organizations are required to obtain Official University recognition in order to be able to apply for the use of University facilities, apply for contributions from University-funded sources and to use the name of the University or any of its sub-units on behalf of the organization. Other privileges granted upon gaining official club recognition include the right to be able to subscribe to telephone services on campus, to use notice boards, CRC, email and web space, etc. Please note that some of these services require user fees. York University Student Centre also requires all groups to be officialy recognized by the University in order to utilize any of the Student Centre services without fees. Which includes but not limited to club offices, conference rooms, tabling, poster and banner space.

How? You must first apply/re-apply to the Centre for Student Community and Leadership Development (SC&LD), located in the Bennett Centre for Student Services, for official status. Once New groups applying for official status have submitted the required information to SC&LD they may apply for temporary use of Student Centre facilities. This will allow your group to use Student Centre facilities until a decision is made by SC&LD on your application for recognition. Groups that already have status must renew with SC&LD annually. Applying for official status does not grant your club the right to use the Student Centre Facilities. You will have to wait until you are placed on the list. NO Exceptions!
