Akasa Gallery

The Student Centre operates the AKASA gallery as part of it’s mission to develop and enhance the cultural climate. The gallery is committed to art exhibits and displays, which enliven, enrich, inform and educate the public by presenting diverse, stimulating and high quality exhibits. Best of all, the newly renovated AKASA Gallery is free and open to both the York community as well as the general public.

Message from Curator – Zahran Khan

The Akasa Gallery is operated and supervised by a Student Curator and four Student Gallery Monitors in affiliation with the York University Student Centre. As a student run space we are dedicated to showing York student work and providing emerging artists a place to gain fundamental exhibition experience. We support art of all orientations/genres, especially that which is progressive, experimental, and relevant to contemporary discourse.

Akasa mounts weekly and biweekly exhibitions from September to April. Interested students can apply during November and February in order to be considered for a space in the following term’s exhibition schedule. Submission forms and guidelines can be picked up at the York University Student Centre office (rm.335) or downloaded from the link on the left of the page. For any further inquiries please feel free to contact me, the curator, by e-mail – akasa@yorkstudentcentre.com.

The Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Centre, on the east side of the food court near Yogen Fruz.
